    The Los Altos Community Jazz Band is a public jazz band class open to kids from 6th grade to 8th grade.  The class is sponsored by West Valley Music.  Students from Los Altos School District as well as surrounding school districts, private schools and home-schoolers are welcome to come and participate.  All classes are held at Blach Intermediate School at 1120 Covington Road in Los Altos.

    Just that ... the basics of playing the ukulele. Focus is on learning chords, strumming, and melodies through playing contemporary and traditional Hawaiian songs. Notes in the open position will be covered as well.

    Students must provide their own instrument. Ukuleles are available for purchase at West Valley Music.

    Through fun games, songs, and poems students learn about dynamics, rhythm, and begin identifying the sound of each of the ukulele strings. Daily practice required. Students must provide own instrument. Additionally, parents strongly are recommended to have their own instrument. Ukuleles are available for purchase at West Valley Music.

    Level 1: This Pre-Twinkle introductory class focuses on building proper violin playing posture and on basic techniques such as how to hold the bow, how to hold the violin, pizzicato, and playing short songs. Through fun games, songs, and poems students learn about dynamics, rhythm, the parts of the violin and bow, and begin aurally identifying the sound of each of the violin strings. Daily practice required. Students must provide own instrument. Additionally, parents strongly are recommended to have their own violin. Rentals are available at West Valley Music.
