    Los Altos Community Jazz Band

    Age: 6th – 8th grade
    Wednesdays 5:15-6:15pm
    Tuition: $175.00
    The Los Altos Community Jazz Band is a public jazz band class open to kids from 6th grade to 8th grade.  The class is sponsored by West Valley Music.  Students from Los Altos School District as well as surrounding school districts, private schools and home schoolers are welcome to come and participate.  All classes are held at Blach Intermediate School at 1120 Covington Road in Los Altos.

    Rehearsal times are from 5:15pm to 6:15pm every Wednesday during the school year from the third Wednesday in September until the last Wednesday in May.  Jazz band is not held during the summer.  If a school or legal holiday falls on a rehearsal Wednesday, jazz band is canceled for that day and will resume on the next Wednesday that school is back in session.

    Beginning Guitar

    Ages 8 and up 
    Saturdays 1:15-2
    Instructor: Jim Witzel

    Intro to basic skills of playing guitar - chords, strumming, finger picking, sight reading and songs.  Students must provide their own instrument. Rentals are available at West Valley Music store.

    Suzuki Violin II (ages 5-6)

    Instructor: Astara Marcia
    Saturday: 3:00-3:30

    -Level 1: This Pre-Twinkle introductory class focuses on building proper violin playing posture and on basic techniques such as how to hold the bow, how to hold the violin, pizzicato, and playing short songs. Through fun games, songs, and poems students learn about dynamics, rhythm, the parts of the violin and bow, and begin aurally identifying the sound of each of the violin strings. Daily practice required. Students must provide own instrument. Rentals are available at West Valley Music.

    Suzuki Violin II

    Instructor: Astara Marcia
    Saturday 3:45-4:15

    Level 2: Students learn how to play all the Twinkle Variations and Twinkle Theme, begin doing bow circles and lifts, play string changes, and continue to refine their posture. Daily practice required. Students must provide own instrument. Rentals are available at West Valley Music.

    Suzuki Violin III/IV

    Saturday 4:30-5:00

    Level 3/4: In this class we expand our violin repertoire with songs from Suzuki Book 1. Students begin reading basic music notation, become acquainted with the history of Western music, and continue developing ear training skills. Daily practice required. Students must provide own instrument. Rentals are available at West Valley Music.
